Zombieland: Double Tap or Zombieland 2 is an upcoming American horror zombie comedy film directed by Ruben Fleischer and written by Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick and David Callaham. Additional cast consisting of Rosario Dawson, Zoey Deutch, Luke Wilson, Thomas Middleditch, Avan Jogia and Dan Aykroyd.
The sequel will debut a decade after the first Zombieland was released. In addition to the cast returning, Ruben Fleischer (Venom) is also back to direct. Development on Zombieland: Double Tap moved along quickly with filming only taking two months to complete.
Talks of a Zombieland sequel began before the release of the first installment, with Reese and Wernick suggesting ideas and the cast voicing their desire to make a second film. However, the project languished in development hell for several years before finally being confirmed in July 2018. The four main stars and Fleischer all signed on that month, while additional cast members including Dawson, Middleditch and Wilson joined in early 2019. It is scheduled to be released in the United States on 18 October 2019.
It’s possible that the producers behind Zombieland: Double Tap will hold out a few weeks to show the trailer at San Diego Comic-Con in late July for maximum exposure. After ten long years, fans can surely wait a few more weeks. If that’s the case, in contrast to SDCC tradition, the trailer would unlikely be a Hall H exclusive.
In November 2018, Zoey Deutch and Avan Jogia joined the cast. In December 2018, it was confirmed that Bill Murray would return for the sequel, once again playing a fictionalized version of himself, and that Dan Aykroyd, who co starred with Murray in Saturday Night Live and the Ghostbusters films, had joined the cast of the film, also playing a fictionalized version of himself. In January 2019, Rosario Dawson joined the cast of the film. Thomas Middleditch and Luke Wilson joined in February.
