We finally got our first trailer for the Witcher and it’s absolutely dripping in dark magic. We got to see lead Henry Cavill in full Geralt of Rivia mode, along with glimpses of Ciri, Yennefer and some very dangerous looking monsters. The trailer is packed with details for fans of the original novels and the games, and it’s made us more excited to see the White Wolf in action. Now all we need is a Witcher release date.
The release date for the Witcher series is expected to be around the end of this year, and with Hissrich leading the project, and as her previous work includes The Defenders, Daredevil and The West Wing expectation are high. The plot of the Netflix Witcher series is based on the original Andrzej Sapkowski novels, not the massive CD project RED game, and Netflix describes it as “the Witcher Geralt, a mutated monster hunter, struggles to find his place in world where people often prove more wicked than beasts.”
The Witcher is coming to streaming platform Netflix as an eight-episode TV drama in late 2019, starring Henry Cavil as Gerald. We’ve got our first big trailer for the series, spotted some funny looking armor on set, and seen the full cast gathered together at San Diego Comic-Con 2019. We even got a look at the most important Witcher character: Geralt’s horse Roach.
The Netflix series is based on the Polish novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, much like the CD projekt Red RPG series that we’re so keen on here at PC Gamer. It’s had a show runner in place for a while now Daredevil and the defenders writer Lauren Schmidt Hissrich and we’ve learned loads about the series through Twitter, including character descriptions.
The Witcher series will launch in the last three months of 2019, as reported by Deadline. While we initially worried it might take until 2020 to finally see the adaptation
