Synopsis

The Lighthouse is a 2019 black-and-white horror film directed by Robert Eggers and written by him and Max Eggers. It stars Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson. The film chronicles the story of two lighthouse keepers as they are faced with solitude, but start to lose their sanity and become threatened by their worst nightmares.

It had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on 19th May  2019. It is scheduled to be released on 18th OCT (2019), by A24. The film received critical acclaim, with critics highlighting the technical aspects, direction, and the performances of Dafoe and Pattinson.

The Lighthouse chronicles the gritty adventures of two lighthouse keepers as they are faced with loneliness, friendship and their worst fears, including how long it has been since they have been in the lighthouse.

In February 2018, it was announced Willem Dafoe had been cast in the film, with Robert Eggers directing from a screenplay he wrote with his brother Max Eggers. Youree Henley Lourenço Sant’Anna Rodrigo Teixeira and Jay Van Hoy will serve as producers on the film, under their RT Features, New Regency and Parts & Labor banners respectively.

The Lighthouse further establishes Robert Eggers as a filmmaker of exceptional talent.

A24 will distribute the film in the United States, while Universal Pictures and Focus Features will handle the international distribution. That same month, Robert Pattinson joined the cast of the film.

The Lighthouse had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in the Directors’ Fortnight section on 19th  May  2019. It will also screen at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2019. The film will be distributed by A24 in North America and by Focus Features elsewhere in the world. It is scheduled to be released on  18th OCT 2019.
