Godzilla vs Kong is an upcoming American monster film directed by Adam Wingard and written by Terry Rossio. A sequel to Godzilla and Kong: Skull Island (2017), it is the fourth film in Legendary Pictures MonsterVerse.The film stars Alexander Skarsgård, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Shun Oguri, Eiza González, Jessica Henwick, Julian Dennison, Kyle Chandler, and Demián Bichir.
King Kong never shows up in the latest Godzilla movie, but his presence is definitely felt. The credits, which feature a series of fictional headlines from the MonsterVerse, even tease his arrival from Skull Island while also setting up a world where humans and kaiju coexist thanks to the benevolence of Godzilla.
It’s unclear how exactly Godzilla and Kong will cross paths, but based on everything we’ve seen so far, the giant gorilla will be the antagonist to Godzilla’s hero.
The project was announced in October 2015 when Legendary announced plans for a shared cinematic universe between Godzilla and King Kong. The film’s writers room was assembled in March 2017, and Wingard was announced as the director in May 2017. Principal photography began in November 2018 in Hawaii, Australia, and Hong Kong and wrapped in April 2019. Godzilla vs. Kong is scheduled to be released on 13 March 2020.
King Kong and Godzilla duke it out in an epic showdown, duh. That said director Adam Wingard revealed the film will be a massive monster brawl movie there’s lots of monsters going crazy on each other.
So far in the MonsterVerse we’ve seen the primate powerhouse against the skull crawlers in Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla against King Ghidorah, Rodan and Mothra in King of the Monsters the events of which follow on from the first film in the franchise, 2014 Godzilla.
The film proved to be a massive hit and maintains classic status amongst fans. With this in mind, the filmmaker who is no stranger to dealing with beloved properties said he aims to respect the original while adding an emotional pull to one of the most iconic monster showdowns in history.
