Wrong No 2 and Chhalawa, the two Urdu films that hit theatres on Eid, have cumulatively earned roughly Rs200 million rupees in the first five days of release, The Express Tribune has learnt. The figures are well beyond what stakeholders had been expecting, especially since local cinema houses have been struggling post the ban on Indian content.
As per insiders, Wrong No 2 has been leading the pack, collecting about Rs110 million so far. Chhalawa is close behind, with Rs90 million, though the exact figures for the Mehwish Hayat-starrer could not be independently verified.
Mehwish Hayat and Azfar Rehman starrer Chhalawa concludes its third week with pretty decent hold but the numbers have now gone down to very low levels. Chhalawa had done extraordinary business in its opening Week aided by huge Eid footfall but there are steep falls since then. Week three did see a good hold but numbers are on the lower levels now.
As per estimates, Chhalawa has wrapped its third Week with numbers around PKR 12 million topping PKR 160 million in three Weeks. The film’s fall in third Week is around 49% compared to second Week. This is a pretty good hold but week two itself had seen massive fall. Overall the film’s numbers are good as Chhalawa is the only third film of 2019 to hit 160 million mark in Pakistan. The film is already highest grossing film of director Wajahat Rauf.
