Ziyi Zhang is a Chinese model/actress. She was born (February 9, 1979) and grew up in Beijing, China.
Zhang’s mother was a kindergarten teacher while her father was an accountant and economist. She was the younger sister of her brother. Zhang started studying dance at the age of 8 and subsequently, at her parents’ suggestion joined the Beijing Dance Academy when she was 11 years old.
But at boarding school, she noticed the competition between student girls for status among their teachers. Zhang didn’t like that competitive environment and on one occasion, she ran away from school.
Zhang won national youth dance championship and the age of 15 and appeared in some of the TV commercials and also in Hong Kong’s television commercials.
Zhang attended the prestigious Central Academy of Drama, Beijing in 1996 at the age of 17. She debuted her film career in The Road Home (1999).
Zhang was a nominee for Golden Globe for Best Actress, for her role in Memoirs of a Geisha.
Some of Zhang acting credits include Hidden Dragon (2000), Rush Hour 2 (2001), Crouching Tiger, Hero (2002), House of Flying Daggers (2004) and Godzilla vs Kong.
Zhang spoke about her movie roles with Interview magazine, said:
“I could have done a lot of Hollywood movies but I turned them down because they were all victim roles. I know I have the ability to go deeper, to take on more original roles than that.”
In her contribution to the local film industry, she got Hong Kong residency through the Quality Migrant Admission Scheme in 2007. Zhang is a member of one of China’s Eight recognized parties, China Zhi Gong Party.
She engaged to Aviv Nevo, an Israeli-American venture capitalist until their separation in 2010. Zhang married Wang Feng in May 2015, who is a Chinese rock musician. Her children are a daughter Wang Xingxing(born December 27, 2015), and a son (born January 2020).
Zhang’s net worth is $100 Million.
