Djimon Gaston Hounsou is a Beninese-American model and actor.
Hounsou was born on 24 April 1964 in Cotonou, Benin, in West Africa. His mother’s name is Albertine his father’s name is Pierre Hounsou, who was a cook.
When he was thirteen years old, he moved to Lyon, France with his brother, Edmond
Hounsou dropped out of school soon after arriving in France and became homeless for some time.
A meeting with a photographer gave Hounsou an opportunity for being introduced to fashion designer Thierry Mugler. Mugler encouraged Hounsou to pursue a modeling career.
Hounsou began his career appearing in music videos. Hounsou started modeling and pursued his modeling career in Paris and has appeared in the catwalks in London and Paris. Then he moved to the United States in 1990.
Hounsou also performed in the music videos for Paula Abdul’s Straight Up, Love Will Never Do, and Madonna’s Express Yourself durting the period 1989-1991. He also appeared in the music video for Hold On.
Afterward, he left his modeling career and has appeared in the movie Gladiator (2000).
Hounsou other film credits include Renegae, Constantine, The Island, Eragon, Push, Guardians of the Galaxy, Furious 7, The Legend of Tarzan and the 2020’s new movie Godzilla vs Kong.
Hounsou started dating model Kimora Lee Simmons in 2007. They welcomed their son in 2009. Hounsou and Kimora Lee Simmons visited Hounsou’s family in Benin where the two participated in a traditional commitment ceremony. But it was not a wedding ceremony.
Simmons and Hounsou separated in November 2012 as they were not married legally in the United States.
