Demián Bichir Nájera is a Mexican-American actor and member of the Bichir family of actors.

Demián Bichir Najera was born on August 1, 1963, in Mexico City, Mexico. His parents met at the theatreas his mother Maricruz Nájera (full name María de la Cruz Nájera Botello) was an actress and her father Alejandro Bichir ( full name Alejandro Bichir Batres) was a theatre director.

His two brothers Bruno Bichir and Odiseo Bichir are also actors. Demián started acting when he was 3 years old at the Palace of Fine Arts in Mexico City. At age 13 he acted in several plays and became a member of the National Theater Company of Mexico.

He appeared in the Spanish versions of Equus, Ah! Wilderness and The Ghost Sonata. Bichir debuted his American stage in By the Waters at the Geffen Play House in Los Angeles.

He moved to New York at the age of 22 and decided to take a break from acting in order to learn English and experience life. Bichir got a job at Rosa Mexicano as a busboy but relocated to Los Angeles for four years to pursue his acting but was unsuccessful. He was back in Mexico when he was offered a role in Hasta Morir.

He also won the Mexican equivalent of an Oscar, Ariel award for this.

Bichir’s career took off from his movie Sexo, pudor y lágrimas, which broke records becoming #1 movie in Mexican cinema history. After then he decided to try again in America and eventually he debuted his acting in America form the television movie In the Time of the Butterflies (2001), co-starring Salma Hayek.

He starred as Fidel Castro in Che: Part One (2008) and Che: Part Two (2008). Bichir was nominated for Oscar award for Best Performance in a lead role for A Better Life (2011).

Some other of his acting credits include Choices of the Heart, Guadalupe, Astucia, Hotel Colonial, Red Dawn, Till Death, Dance with the Devil, Ivan’s Dream, Grudge and Godzilla vs Kong.

He was in a relationship with Stefanie Sherk from 2011 until her death when she committed suicide on 12 April 2019. Bichir married to Lisset from 2001 to 2003. Bichir’s daughter, Gala, is from a relationship with a Spanish woman.
