April Lee was born and raised in Richmond/Vancouver, British Columbia. She has a brother, a sister and 2 half-brothers, all younger than her. She had always loved acting and film but April was afraid to pursue her career in acting, rather than she wanted to go into law.
After practicing criminal defense law, she moved to Toronto, Ontario, where she added family protection and family law to her areas of practice. Later on, she left law after the birth of her daughter and spent a number of years as an unhappy bureaucrat before shaming herself into pursuing acting and writing opportunities.
She was involved in many high profile criminal court cases including the largest case in Canadian history at that time. April talked about her law career:
“I spent a total of 8 years practicing heavily specialized law. I don’t know any ‘useful’ law.”
In early 2014, April acted in First Gay Hug video with her daughter, playing a homophobic mother. The video was marketed as real. April and her daughter recognized and criticized in public. Her name was removed from the list of huggers although the footage remains.
Her acting credits include Cult of Nightmares, If We’re Still Single, My Spy, Drowning and Get the Sucker Back.
